You Can’t Make Everyone Happy

Just recently, I wrote a series of books on mindset and what it takes to run a business. I was very honest with everything I shared. I explained how things are not easy and that you need to work hard to have success. Most people read the books and were very thankful for the honesty. There were still those who said that they didn’t agree with my thinking. Interesting. You’re honest and people say you’re wrong. Perhaps they want to believe that get rich quick schemes really DO exist and work.

Okay, you’re probably wondering what my point is and what it has to do with the topic of this article. Well, don’t worry, I’m going to explain that in due course. But before I do, read the above paragraph again and really reflect on it and what I’ve just told you. If you think about it, it’s really pretty mind boggling with so many people complaining about marketers just after your money. Okay, time to get to the point.

No matter how honest you are, no matter how many facts you present, no matter how great your product is,. no matter how fantastic your customer service is, no matter how hard you work to please people…you will NEVER please everybody. If you manage to learn that ONE lesson, your life as an Internet marketer is going to be a whole lot better. Let me explain why.

A day will come where you will get all these sales. You’ll feel really good. The world is wonderful. And then it happens. You get an email from an irate customer who tells you that your product is crap and they ask for a refund. Suddenly, all the good that you experienced that day is out the window. Somebody just called your product…your child…crap. It’s not a good feeling. And I’ll admit, back in the early days, it used to bug me.

Not anymore.

See, there are those out there who, if you point up to the sky and say it’s blue, they will look you straight in the eye and say, “It isn’t.” And you can show them all the proof in the world. You can get the greatest scientists and the greatest minds in the world to testify that the sky is blue and it won’t matter. To this person, the sky will be any color BUT blue.

Once you understand this, and once you understand that no matter how hard you work on your product to make it the best that it can be, there will always be those who will call it crap. The key is to understand this, maybe get some feedback on it (though it’s not likely) and then move on. If you find areas that need to be improved, then improve them. But don’t try to please everybody.

I believe it was Abe Lincoln who said you can not please all the people all the time. All you have to do is please a lot of people most of the time. If you are fair to everyone and treat everyone well you will be doing the best you can, and that is all you can expect from yourself. You will most likely be ok with the person in the mirror when you’ve simply & honestly done the best you can do. Thanks Folusho.
