No, this is not a trick question. Do you know what the most important part of your web site is? Okay, maybe it is a trick question. There are a lot of things that are important about your web site. However, there is one thing that, if it’s not absolutely great, will kill most chances you have of making sales from it. If you’re scratching your head trying to figure this out, you can relax. I’m going to fill you in on what the number one factor is for a successful web site.

In order to understand what I’m about to tell you, you need to understand how people even get to your web site in the first place, assuming that yours is even listed. I’m talking about search engines. That’s right…the place where your average surfer goes. Think about it…you yourself go to search engines when you’re looking for things online. I know I do. Anyway, when you go to the search engine and type in your search phrase, what happens? You get a list of sites, usually about 10 or 20 per page depending on the search engine you’re using.

Okay, now, when you start to go through this list, what do you look for? You look for the site that best appears to provide the solution to the problem that you’re having. But how do you determine this? You don’t really have a lot to go by…just a few line description. That’s what you read when you make your decision to go to that site or not. Have the lights gone on yet? They should, because THAT is the most important part of your web site…the name and description.

Let’s put it this way. Let’s say you’re looking for a site that sells cosmetics. You put in cosmetics in the little search box and hit enter. The first site that comes up has the following name and description. “Index Page – Cosmetics Page” The second site has this description. “Evelyn’s Exotic Cosmetics – The only cosmetics site you’ll ever need for all your cosmetics needs.” Which one are you going to go to? Which one will you take more seriously? Which one will you remember? Certainly NOT the first one.

And if you think that there aren’t sites out there with horrible descriptions like the first one, head on over to Google and type in anything and start going through a few pages of results. The site will be enough to make you sick.

If you do nothing else with your web site, do this…Give it a great name and a description.

Add some content and you’ll actually have a shot at making some sales.

The website headline and description is the first thing we all see.

Like the headline to an article, keywords of a Google PPC ad, title of a book or anything that describes what your customer wants as quickly, distinctly and as creatively as possible … I agree, this is the most important thing you need for your website. It can separate the moneymakers from the me-too wanna-bes.

Your InternetMarketingTelevision website points this all out very clearly Folusho. Thanks.
