To successfully market a site, first you have to have a site. Free sites are free, but they are labor intensive to customize and format. Professionally developed sites will have a polished appearance. However, those professionals do need to get paid.
Then you need to get the digital word out. This can be done by personally blogging; however, this is time consuming. You can invest money in advertising. You could also buy a list of leads, though this is expensive.
When you do get customers, there is the matter of turning one time buyers into repeat customers. This is crucial because repeat customers are not only cheaper than constantly generating new leads; they are also the beginning of word of mouth advertising. Word of mouth is the cheapest marketing there is, in person or on the Internet. However, it requires extensive investment of time or money or both to get the customers to come and stay. Thus you need to ensure that your customer list is properly maintained. This can be done with auto-responders to manage email lists. Auto-responders let new people automatically sign up and remove themselves from your email lists. They also let you send messages to your customer base. Those that are free have limits because those managing them have limits on how much bandwidth that can be given away. Those auto-responders that you pay for have no limits because you have paid for the privilege.
Marketing your website may require serious investment of time or effort, but the most successful sites have a mixture of both. Rely on your strengths for financial savings, so that you can pay for the expertise that you need.
