I don’t know about you, but I’ve been seeing this web 2.0 craze everywhere. Internet marketing has really seen a lot of changes over the years because of it. We got a nice taste of it when Myspace and Facebook become so popular, but now there’s a new crop of social media sites and they’re taking the internet by storm.
The biggest of the bunch, or atleast the one everyone’s talking about, is Twitter. To be honest with you though, most of the money I make online has nothing to do with web 2.0. But even I’m starting to come around. That’s why I decided to join Twitter a few days ago.
One of the biggest things Twitter has going for it is the fact that you can give all of your followers updates almost as fast as the speed of light. John Chow, a guy that makes most of his money writing about how he make money online, did a very interesting marketing test to see if he could actually make money with his twitter account.
John’s test was extremely successful at showing how he could make money just by promoting a product he was affiliated with through a few short sentences that he wrote to his Twitter followers.
For the average Joe and Jane though, you really need to understand a few things before you decide to make money with web 2.0. You need to understand how web 2.0 has changed internet marketing before you can start making money online with it. The reason are listed below in no particular order, and of course there are more than 3 reasons but I wanted to keep this article relatively short.
Reason #1
Web 2.0 has allowed people from all over the world to communicate with one another without having to call or email each other.
This is a big deal because communication happens so much faster now. So with that in mind, if you want to make money with social media, you have to move really quickly. You can wait if you decide to promote some type of an offer through social media. You have to act now because while you’re thinking about it, someone else is doing it.
Reason #2
People that communicate with you through web 2.0 feel like they have more of a connection with you than any other form of communication. Maybe it’s because you can post pictures of yourself and your friends. Maybe this causes people to feel as if they know you a little better. With this in mind, if you follow the rules of web 2.0 when you’re doing your marketing, you can make quite a bit of money.
Reason #3
Web 2.0 and social media sites rank very well in the search engines. So you can try to ignore them all you want, but most of these web 2.0 will outrank you in the search engines. If you’re trying to rank in Google for a web page that features a product that you’re affiliated with, you better have a page on as many web 2.0 sites as possible. Because if you don’t, your competition will outrank you, and beat you to the cash.
I’m sure there are many more reasons though, so feel free to add your own reasons in the comments section.

I like your article. Nicely written and truthful. I am realizing that clicks come suddenly with twitter in particular and after about 30 minutes, no more clicks on your tweet since everyone follows so many people (I try not too).
